Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar took oath as the new Governor of Kerala at a special ceremony held at Raj Bhavan on Thursday. Kerala High Court Chief Justice Nitin Madhukar Jamdar administered the oath to the Governor at 10.30 am. The Governor took oath in the name of God and became the 23rd Governor of the state.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Assembly Speaker AN Shamseer, Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan, senior Congress leader and AICC working committee member Ramesh Chennithala, ministers, MPs, MLAs, chief secretaries, senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and Indian Police Service (IPS) were present at the ceremony. ) officials, defense officials, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leaders also attended.
Mr Arlekar along with his wife Anagha Arlekar reached the airport on Wednesday evening, where he was warmly welcomed by the Chief Minister and his Cabinet colleagues. After the swearing-in ceremony, a tea party was organized at the Raj Bhavan. Mr Arlekar replaces Arif Mohammad Khan, who has been sworn in as the Governor of Bihar. Rajendra Arlekar, cabinet minister in the Goa government and former speaker of the Goa Assembly, has been associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh since childhood.
He worked on various positions. These include Chairman of Goa Industrial Development Corporation, Chairman of Goa State Scheduled Castes and Other Backward Classes Financial Development Corporation, BJP President of South Goa. In 2021, he was appointed the Governor of Himachal Pradesh and later became the Governor of Bihar.
