Demand for snacks, cold drinks and party items broke records. Platforms like Blinkit and Swiggy Instamart were flooded with orders for everything from aloo bhujia to ice packets. This style of home parties once again proved that the style of celebration in India is the most special. Blinkit CEO Albinder Dhindsa shared the situation by sharing a post on social media platform X.
Aloo Bhujiya becomes party star
By 8 pm, Blinkit delivered 2.3 lakh packets of Aloo Bhujia. On the other hand, 853 orders per minute were made for chips on Swiggy Instamart at 7:30 pm. The top 5 most searched items on Swiggy Instamart included milk, chocolate, grapes, cheese and chips. Swiggy Instamart’s co-founder Phani Kishan also made a post regarding this.
Demand for ice packets is sky high
By 8 pm, 6,834 packets of ice were ordered on Blinkit, while ice orders on BigBasket saw an increase of 1290%. Swiggy Instamart founder Fani Kishan tweeted, ‘At 7:41 pm, 119 kg ice was being delivered every minute.’
Increased sales of party disposables and non-alcoholic drinks
BigBasket reported that sales of disposable cup-plates increased by 325% and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 552%.
Condom sales made records
Till the afternoon of December 31, Swiggy Instamart delivered 4,779 packets of condoms. By the end of the night, Blinkit had delivered 1.2 lakh packets of condoms, of which chocolate flavor was liked the most (39%). This was followed by strawberry (31%) and bubblegum (19%). Blinkit CEO Albinder Dhindsa shared interesting statistics from New Year’s night on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
Unsolicited orders: blindfolds and underwear
On Swiggy Instamart, a customer ordered blindfolds and handcuffs, while Blinkit also saw demand for men’s underwear. This New Year night made it clear that the party mood was on in India!
