As per the instructions of the Government of India, the work of 21st Animal Census-2024 by the Animal Husbandry and Dairy Department has started in the entire Madhya Pradesh from 25 October 2024. Minister of State for Animal Husbandry and Dairying (Independent Charge) Shri Lakhan Patel has appealed to all the cattle farmers of the state that when the employees from the Animal Husbandry Department come to count their livestock, they must give correct information about their animals. No house or livestock should be left out of the calculation. Work with the feeling that my animals are my responsibility. This is a work of national importance, everyone should give their full cooperation in this.
Minister Shri Patel said that animals will be counted in total 55 thousand 902 villages and 7 thousand 846 urban wards of 55 districts of the state. Till date, survey work has started in a total of 7077 villages/urban wards in the state, survey work will be started soon in the remaining villages/urban wards. 5558 enumerators and 970 supervisors are working in animal census in the state. It is noteworthy that according to the animal census of the year 2019, there were more than 6 crore animals in Madhya Pradesh. According to this, Madhya Pradesh ranks third in the country in terms of number of animals.
