People of OBC category of Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur district unitedly said in Patrakar Bhavan that now the fight for reservation for OBC category will be fought, currently in the notification issued by Chhattisgarh government, OBC reservation has been abolished. District President OBC Mahasabha Ramnaresh Patel said that OBC reservation has been abolished due to which we all are angry, the government should restore our reservation.
Everyone told in the press conference that the Fifth Schedule is applicable in all the districts of Surguja and Bastar divisions of Chhattisgarh state, due to which all the posts of Sarpanch or President for ST category are vacant in these areas under Section 129 (e) of Chhattisgarh Panchayat Raj Act. Will be reserved for members of ST category, reservation for ST category will not be less than half of the total number of seats. But there is a clear provision in sub-section (03) of this section that there will be reservation for OBC category even in the Panchayats of notified areas but the total reservation of ST/SC and OBC will not be more than 75%.
In the Chhattisgarh Panchayat Raj (Amendment) Ordinance 2024, sub-section (03) of Section 129 (e) of the above mentioned Principal Act has been omitted by the Government of Chhattisgarh, due to which the eligibility for reservation given to the OBC category even in the notified areas has ended ( Zero) has become. In this way, we, the fundamental rights of the OBC class living in these areas have been violated and grave injustice and deception has been done to us. In the meeting, everyone said in one voice that we all the people of OBC category demand that the reservation given to OBC categories in urban bodies and panchayats should be restored.
On this occasion, Ramnaresh Patel, Omprakash Vishwakarma, Vishnu Das, Hansnarayan Singh, Ramesh Yadav, Manoj Chakradhari, Dilip Pant, Ram Basant, Gopi Rai, Naseem Ansari, Mohd. Rahmatullah, along with a large number of OBC category officials were present. OBC Mahasabha will hold a protest demonstration in Khadgwa on 27th December, Bharatpur block on 28th December and a protest demonstration is being organized in the district headquarters on 29th December.
