Ratlam
The tension arising after the road accident in Bajna of Ratlam district took a violent form. The protesters pelted stones at the police, injuring 12 policemen. To control the situation, police released tear gas shells and resorted to lathi charge. A tense situation prevailed in Bajna area, while traders kept Bajna market closed on Sunday in protest against the incident.
Two youths died in road accident
Kamal Amaliar (27) and Deepak Kharadi (25) died in a collision between a bike and a bus in village Cantonment Jhodiya on the night of 20 December. After the accident the bus driver fled from the spot. Shivgarh police seized the bus and sent the bodies to the medical college.
Demonstration demanding financial assistance
On December 21, relatives of the deceased and villagers demonstrated by placing the dead bodies at the bus stand of Bajna. He demanded compensation of Rs 25 lakh each to the families of the deceased, immediate financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh each and arrest of the bus driver. The protesters became furious when their demands were not met. A large number of villagers reached Bajna police station and staged a sit-in.
Stone pelting on police, situation out of control
At around 1.30 am, the protesters pelted stones at the police force, in which 12 policemen including SDOP Neelam Baghel, Mahila police station in-charge Parvati Gaur, Gendlal Makwana, Shubham Prajapat were injured. To handle the situation, the police resorted to tear gas and lathi charge.
Police action and detention
After controlling the situation, the police took the bodies of the deceased in custody and sent them to village Ghata Kherda, where both were cremated in the morning. Police registered a case against 11 people and detained 9 accused for violence during the protest and attack on policemen.
Traders kept the market closed
Traders of Bajna kept their shops closed on Sunday in protest against the incident and the Bhanjgada (compromise) practice. ASP Rakesh Khakha said that the situation is being constantly monitored. Treatment of the injured is ongoing, while the accused are being interrogated.
