Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been awarded Kuwait’s highest civilian honor ‘The Order of Mubarak the Great’ by Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Mashal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. This honor has been awarded to him for his contribution in strengthening relations between Kuwait and India. Let us tell you that after 43 years an Indian Prime Minister has visited Kuwait. During this time he has been given this honour.

This honor was instituted on 16 July 1974 by the Government of Kuwait in memory of Mubarak Al-Sabah. He was called the Sheikh of Kuwait from 1896 to 1915. He succeeded in obtaining recognition of independence from the Ottoman Empire in favor of Kuwait in 1897.

PM Modi reached Kuwait on Saturday on a two-day visit. This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister in 43 years. He said, “We are happy to see ‘Make in India’ products making new inroads into Kuwait, especially in the automobile, electrical and mechanical machinery and telecommunication sectors. India today is manufacturing world class products at the most economical costs. “Diversifying non-oil trade is key to expanding bilateral trade.”

He said there is great potential to expand bilateral cooperation in pharmaceutical, health, technology, digital, innovation and textile sectors. He urged that business circles, entrepreneurs and innovators from both sides should engage and interact with each other more.
