Congress MP Vijay Vasant has demanded Khel Ratna from the Sports Ministry for former Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. Tagging Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on his social media handle, he appealed to be given Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award.
Vijay Vasant wrote in a post on X, I have written a letter to Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya requesting that R Ashwin be honored with the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award. His extraordinary contribution to Indian cricket and remarkable achievements on the field make him truly deserving of this honour.
Ashwin announces retirement after Gaba test
It is noteworthy that on Wednesday, Ashwin announced his retirement from international cricket during the press conference with Indian captain Rohit Sharma after the Gabba Test match was drawn. Speculations about his retirement started when he emotionally hugged Virat Kohli. Only then was it believed that he could announce his retirement.
