Canada
Protests against Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau seem to be increasing. Now the news is that TPA i.e. Toronto Police Association has demanded Trudeau’s resignation. The organization has taken this step after the recent changes in the Criminal Code proposed by the government. This development is happening at a time when Canada’s Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland has resigned.
“Our members have lost confidence in the Justin Trudeau government to do the right thing for the right reasons,” the TPA posted on its official handle. Now the time has come to resign and let someone else handle important issues related to public safety. Earlier the association had said, ‘This is very ridiculous. After doing nothing for 9 years, you chose a time when your government is descending into anarchy and attempts are being made to pacify us through proposals. What a joke.’ PM Trudeau has also been tagged in the post.
government proposals
Actually, some proposals were presented by Canadian MP Anita Anand. First, ‘Amend the Criminal Code so that those who commit repeat and violent crimes can be held accountable.’ Second, ‘stringent conditions for bail in violent crimes such as vehicle theft, vandalism and forced entry.’ Third, ‘to give CBSA officers the right to inspect exported goods.’
resignation of finance minister
The Deputy Prime Minister, as well as Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland, announced their resignations from Cabinet on Monday following instructions from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Freeland said Prime Minister Trudeau had asked him to step down as finance minister and take another role in Cabinet. Freeland said in his resignation letter that in such a situation he thought it better to adopt the honest and practical path of leaving the cabinet. There has been a steady decline in the popularity of the Trudeau government in Canada in recent times. In such a situation, the resignation of Freeland, the most powerful minister of the Trudeau government, is being considered a big blow.
