Jagdalpur
Former Naxalites who came to meet Home Minister Amit Shah in Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh have made many revelations about Naxalite leaders. He says that if a Naxal cadre wants to marry, he has to undergo sterilization first. Sterilization is a very common word in Maoist terminology. Marriage has to go through this process on the instructions of senior CPI (Maoist) leaders.
A former Naxalite from Telangana was instructed to undergo sterilization process before marriage. When he surrendered several years later, he underwent a second surgery to reverse the process. After this he became the father of a boy. Most Naxalites choose this process to start a family after surrender. Union Home Minister Amit Shah was informed about its impact.
The former Naxalite said, “When I was a member of CPI (Maoist), I had to undergo sterilization before marriage. But when I joined the mainstream after surrender, I got an operation done so that I could become a father. After the second operation, I became the father of a child.” In fact, there is a belief among Naxal leaders that after the birth of a child, people in their cadre will fall under the influence of the family.
Because of this the Naxal movement will be harmed. There is also a fear that the cadres who get married may turn their backs on the movement. As a result, sterilization is mandatory for any cadre who marries. Naxalite Markam Dula, who surrendered from Sukma district of Chhattisgarh, said that Naxalite leaders do not want any member to get emotionally attached to their children, hence ‘sterilization’ is done.
A former Maoist from Malkangiri, Odisha has also shared a similar story. Sukanti Mari said, “Before marrying my fellow cadre, she had to undergo sterilization.” Her husband was killed in a police encounter. After this he surrendered before the authorities. During this conversation, Amit Shah said that he is extremely satisfied that the youth are leaving the path of violence and laying down their arms.
He appealed to the Naxalites to give up their arms and join the mainstream and said that their rehabilitation is the responsibility of the government. He said, “I appeal to the Naxalites to please come forward. Give up weapons, surrender and join the mainstream. Your rehabilitation is our responsibility.” The Center has made a rehabilitation policy for surrendered militants and Naxalites.
