Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar-free electricity scheme becomes good news for domestic electricity consumers

Ambikapur,

Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar-Free Electricity Scheme has been started by the government to encourage urban and rural domestic electricity consumers to install rooftop solar plants on the roof of their houses. According to the information received from the Electricity Department, 213 applicants have registered online under the scheme to install rooftop solar plants on the roofs of houses in Surguja district. Along with this, the department has received 147 applications, out of which 45 beneficiaries have selected the firm to install the plant in their homes.

Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar-Free Electricity Scheme is effective from February 2024. This established plant will be connected to the electricity grid through net metering, due to which the electricity produced by the consumer in excess of his consumption is supplied to the grid. This not only reduces the consumer’s household electricity bill to zero, but also provides additional income in lieu of electricity supplied to the grid. There is a provision by the government to give subsidy ranging from Rs 30 thousand to Rs 78 thousand per plant under the Prime Minister Suryaghar-Free Electricity Scheme. The cost amount and subsidy varies according to the capacity of the rooftop solar plant. Consumers can choose the brand of solar plant. There is a provision of subsidy up to a maximum of Rs 78 thousand for installing a plant with a capacity of more than 3 kilowatts.

To avail the benefit of Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar-Free Electricity Scheme, the applicant will have to register on the website or get the login ID on the mobile app. After this, after selecting the vendor available on the web portal, you will have to submit the complete application on the web portal with the help of the electricity employee. After the prescribed contract is signed, the plant is installed on the rooftop by the vendor and the net meter is installed by the discom. After verification of the installed plant, the subsidy is released online by the government. During this period, if the consumer is interested, the remaining amount is sent online to the banks through Jan Samarthan Portal for bank loan at 7 percent interest rate.
