India’s Foreign Secretary arrives in Bangladesh, talks will be held on important issues amid attacks on Hindus

Dhaka.

Hindus are continuously being targeted in Bangladesh. The situation here is not improving. Meanwhile, India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri is on a visit to Dhaka. He arrived here on Monday morning to discuss bilateral relations between India and Bangladesh. During this he will meet his Bangladeshi counterpart.

This visit is taking place at a time when relations between the two countries remain tense after the overthrow of Sheikh Hasina government in August this year. With Sheikh Hasina leaving Bangladesh and coming to India in August, the new caretaker government and its chief Mohd. Yunus started targeting India. The oppression of Hindus in Bangladesh started with Sheikh Hasina leaving the country. People’s houses were burnt, murders took place and temples were also targeted. Meanwhile, ISKCON also came under the target of Bangladesh. Some organizations demanded to declare ISKCON as a terrorist organization. Even a few days ago, the well-known Hindu leader Chinmoy Krishna Das was also arrested. There is continuous tension here since the arrest.

All issues of bilateral relations will be discussed
Now amidst all these worrying situations, India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri has reached Dhaka. The delegation, led by the Foreign Secretaries of the two countries, is expected to discuss all issues of bilateral relations by participating in the Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) mechanism established between the two countries. Shafikul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government of Bangladesh, had said on December 4 that the foreign secretaries of the two countries would discuss issues of mutual interest.

Tauheed Hussain had met Jaishankar
In September this year, Mohammad Tauheed Hossain, Foreign Advisor (Minister) of the Interim Government of Bangladesh, had met Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. They decided to maintain a good working relationship. Also decided to organize FOC between India and Bangladesh.
