West Indies cricketer John Campbell has received an unforgettable punishment for indiscipline. The West Indies Cricket Board (CWI) has banned Campbell for four matches. He did not arrive on time for the toss in the final match of the domestic ODI tournament Super50. The umpires were very upset with this action of the captain. Campbell took charge of the Jamaica Scorpions in the tournament. He has now expressed regret for his mistake.
Campbell has played 28 international matches
31-year-old Campbell has played 20 Tests, 6 ODIs and two T20 International matches for West Indies. Jamaica Scorpions captain John Campbell has been suspended for four matches following a Level 3 charge related to his conduct during the Super50 final against Barbados Pride on 23 November 2024, the board said. This decision is related to the umpires not coming for the toss as instructed. In a letter to the match referee, Campbell apologized for the disruption.
Overo was cut due to rain
The Super50 final had to be canceled under strange circumstances, which was affected by rain. Due to rain, the umpires had decided to have a 20-20 over match. The umpire considered the conditions favorable for play but the captains of both the teams did not come for the toss. In such a situation, there was no winner or runner-up for the 2024-25 edition. The fate of Barbados Pride captain Ramon Reifer is yet to be decided.
‘Sorry to interrupt the final’
“I sincerely apologize for any disruption I caused during the final and accept that my actions could be seen as a protest against the decision of the match officials,” Campbell said. It was never my intention to undermine his authority or bring the game into disrepute. “I fully acknowledge the importance of maintaining the integrity of the game and the need to follow the rules and decisions of the officials.”
