Central Government’s response to High Court’s instructions, BHMRC will not be merged with AIIMS.

While hearing the petitions filed in connection with the Bhopal gas tragedy, the Central Government told the double bench of High Court Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva and Justice Vinay Saraf that tenders were invited for digitization. But it has been canceled because only one company submitted the tender. The government will soon issue another tender. The double bench has scheduled the next hearing on the petition on December 9.

20 instructions regarding treatment and rehabilitation of gas victims

It is noteworthy that in the year 2012, the Supreme Court, while hearing the petition filed by Bhopal Gas Victims Mahila Udyog Sangathan, had issued 20 instructions regarding the treatment and rehabilitation of Bhopal gas victims. A monitoring committee was formed to ensure their implementation. The court’s instructions were that the monitoring committee would present its report before the High Court every three months. After this, on the basis of the presented report, necessary guidelines will be issued by the High Court to the Central and State Governments. Hearing in this matter is going on in the High Court.

Along with this, a contempt petition was also filed in 2015 against non-implementation of the recommendations of the monitoring committee during the pendency of the petition. During the earlier hearing on the petition, it was told by the government that more than 70 percent of the prescribed posts of doctors and paramedical staff in BHMRC have been appointed.

Case of merging BMHRC with AIIMS

Meanwhile, a demand was made on behalf of the petitioner that BHMRC should not be merged with AIIMS. After the demand for merger was discussed in the Parliamentary Board, it was sent to the Central Public Health and Family Welfare Department. The Central Public Health and Family Welfare Department has already taken a decision regarding not merging. The double bench has issued instructions to BHMRC to submit a written reply regarding not being merged with AIIMS. Advocate Vikram Singh appeared on behalf of the government.
