Officially, the ban on burqa in Switzerland will start from January 1, 2025. Like many other countries, Switzerland has also talked about banning the burqa citing security reasons. Switzerland has also cited social harmony as the reason behind banning the burqa.

The decision was implemented in 2021
Switzerland was the first to decide to ban the burqa in the entire country after a referendum in the year 2021. However, this decision was strongly criticized by Muslim organizations and human rights supporters. Despite this, the referendum passed by a narrow margin. Here only 51 percent people supported the ban.

In Switzerland, a fine of up to 1,000 Swiss francs will be imposed against those who violate the burqa ban law. According to Indian money, this amount is around Rs 1 lakh.

Despite the ban on burqa in Switzerland, it will still be possible to cover the head in some situations. For example, women can cover their heads in airplanes and diplomatic premises. The head can also be covered at places of worship and other sacred places. Head covering can also be done due to medical issue. Apart from this, face and head can be covered due to extreme heat or cold. Head and face can also be covered during traditional rituals and art programs. There is freedom to cover the head and face during public meetings or protests.

Burqa is banned in these countries
The latest country to ban burqa is Switzerland. Apart from this, 16 countries have banned burqa in their countries. These countries include Europe, Asia and Africa. Tunisia, Austria, Denmark, France, Belgium, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Bulgaria, Cameroon, Chad, Republic of Chicago, Gabon, Netherlands, China, Morocco and Sri Lanka.
