About 175 nursing colleges in Madhya Pradesh have been found eligible for recognition, but due to the strictness many colleges did not apply for recognition. There has been a decline in the number of nursing colleges and seats. Now, out of 485 colleges, about 350 may be closed as they do not meet the recognition criteria.
Even though about 175 nursing colleges have been found worthy of recognition in the investigation by the high level investigation committee constituted by the CBI and the High Court, many college operators are pulling back due to the strictness. They have not only applied for recognition, about 300 applications were received for renewal of recognition, out of which only about 125 are said to be eligible for recognition.
Talking about seats, there are only about six thousand seats including GNM (Diploma course) and B.Sc (Nursing) in these 125 colleges, whereas after the year 2020, at one time the situation was such that there were up to 45 thousand seats in 670 nursing colleges in the state. This was the highest number of colleges and seats till date. The major loss due to reduction in seats will be for the young men and women preparing for admission to nursing course.
No new college will be opened
Officials of Madhya Pradesh Nursing Council said that the recognition is expected to be issued within a day or two. The state government has decided that like the year 2023, this year too no new colleges will be opened, only the already running colleges will be recognised. Applications were invited from colleges for renewal, testing of which is almost complete.
After the release of the recognition renewal list, the admission process will start from MP Online. The Staff Selection Board has already conducted the entrance examination for admission. Officials of the Directorate of Medical Education said that the admission process will be completed in December.
350 colleges will be closed
Let us tell you, Law Student Association President Vishal Baghel had filed a petition in the High Court regarding the criteria in running nursing colleges. Madhya Pradesh Nursing Council caught the fraud of some colleges. The High Court gave instructions to close ineligible colleges. In this way about 200 colleges were closed.
Presently 485 colleges are running. Of these, about 350 will be closed because they do not meet the standards of facilities required for accreditation. If the situation continues to be like this in the future, private and government hospitals will not be able to get nursing staff as per the requirement of the state.
