Aircraft will be able to land even in fog at Bhopal Airport, air testing of Category-II ILS system conducted

Now planes will be able to land at Raja Bhoj Airport in the capital even in bad weather. Due to cold and fog, planes often have to be diverted to nearby airports. The airport authority has now upgraded the ILS i.e. Instrument Landing System. The new category-two system has been installed.

test was successful

It was air tested on Thursday. In the landing test conducted by a special aircraft, the system was found to be in accordance with its parameters. The Airport Authority had upgraded the system and conducted ground testing in the month of September. On Thursday, the special service aircraft of the authority reached Bhopal from Delhi. This aircraft tested new systems and navigation systems.

RVR system also installed

A four-member expert team was on board the plane. Airport Director Ramji Awasthi said that the test was successful. The airport is already equipped with Category-I system along with Runway Visual Range (RVR). With its help, aircraft land when visibility is up to 550 meters with the help of lighting installed on the runway. After the system upgrade, planes will be able to land easily even when visibility is up to 350 meters.

Permission pending from DGCA

The test report will now be sent to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The new system will start working after getting formal permission from DGCA. Usually between December and February, flights are delayed due to dense fog. Many times they have to divert. Now it will reduce. Flights will need to be diverted only when visibility is less than 350 metres.

Recently, Automatic Weather Observation System (AWOS) was also installed at the airport. With its installation, in case of bad weather, pilots get immediate information about fog, rain or storm. Helps in safe landing.
