For the first time in Madhya Pradesh, soybean is being procured at Minimum Support Price (MSP) but farmers are not showing interest in it. Soybean procurement at MSP has been started in the state from October 25. Till now only 600 farmers have sold about 1000 tonnes of soybean while 460 procurement centers have been created for this. So far 14,000 farmers have made slot booking through registration.
Market price equal to support price
Agriculture department officials say that farmers have withheld their produce because they are getting prices equal to the support price in the market. They estimate that better prices may be available for soybean produce in future. Here, due to high moisture content in soybean samples are being returned to the procurement centres, due to this the pace of procurement is also slow.
On the other hand, the price available in the market is Rs 4,500 to Rs 5,000 per quintal. The support price of soybean is fixed at Rs 4,982 per quintal, but due to the price being lower than this in the market, farmers had demanded to purchase at the support price.
price increase expected
On the demand of the state government, the central government has given permission to procure 13.68 lakh tonnes of soybean. For this, 3,43,000 farmers have registered. Farmers hope that the prices will increase further, hence they are withholding the produce for now. Agriculture Department officials say that now soybean grains are drying up. The festival of Diwali has also happened, hence there will be a speed in the arrival of produce to the procurement centres.
