The work of constructing four ROBs started simultaneously in the city. After the work of three has been completed, traffic has also started. But Vivekananda Needham ROB is incomplete even after seven years. Earlier this work was incomplete by Railways and now it is incomplete due to incomplete homework of PWD.
In 2017, Bhoomi Pujan was held simultaneously for the construction of four ROBs in the city. Three were built, a year passed even after the traffic started, whereas the Vivekananda ROB connecting Naka Chandravadni to Collectorate remains incomplete even after eight years. Earlier the work was stuck due to railway issues, now the work is stuck due to incomplete homework of the officers of PWD bridge division. When the department started the work for construction of service road, the builders protested and stopped the work.
When the proposal for land acquisition was prepared, the builders got the land use changed in order to get huge compensation. As a result, for the land for which earlier the department had to pay compensation of only Rs 1.5 crore, it will now have to pay around Rs 6.50 crore. However, now the PWD Bridge Division has changed its intention of land acquisition. Now the department will not give compensation to anyone, rather the service road which was earlier to be built of 5.5 meters will now be made of three meters.
Bhoomipujan of these ROB was done in 2017
- Mallagadha ROB:- The work was given to Mangalam Wildakan, the work has been completed, traffic is moving.
- Yadav Dharmakanta:-Given work to agency Vankhandeshwar firm. Traffic has started.
- Tansen Road ROB:-The work was awarded to Anupam Construction Company, Noida, traffic is flowing.
- Vivekananda ROB:-Anupam Construction Company got the work, it has not been completed yet.
This problem came without homework
Railway:-Railways first talked about making 60 meters, then 45 meters and finally 37 meters of ROB. Due to which PWD bridge division changed its design thrice. Girder launch failed on 30 June 2023. The railway work was completed just about six months ago.
Sewer Line:-When the PWD Bridge Division started the work after the completion of the railway work, a sewer line emerged below the place where the pillar was to stand. The work remained stuck for one and a half month, after paying around Rs 5 lakh to the corporation, the work started after shifting the sewer line.
Land acquisition:-When the department started the work of building the service road, the builders demanded compensation. The department prepared a proposal of about Rs 1.5 crore since it was agricultural land. Meanwhile, the land use of the land was changed to residential, due to which the compensation amount increased to Rs 3 crore. After this, the builders changed the land use to commercial, due to which the compensation amount now increased to about Rs 6.5 crore.
what now
There is no provision in the budget for land acquisition for the construction of Vivekananda ROB. Earlier the PWD bridge division was planning to give compensation, but now after seeing the actions of the builders, the department has decided not to acquire the land. Now the department is getting three meters space for the service road here, hence only this wide road will be built. If sources are to be believed, if needed, the width of the bridge on the Collectorate side can also be reduced, however, no decision has been taken yet in this regard. Departmental officers claim that ROB will be opened to the public by December 15. At present two slabs and two pillars are ready. The work of one slab is in progress, work of one more is to be done.
I got only the date again and again
Till now only date after date has been received in response to the question of when Vivekananda ROB will be operational. First March 2023, then May 2023, September 2023, November 2023 and now 15 December 2024.

We will not give compensation for land acquisition. The land for which compensation is being sought was already given for the construction of the road through public participation. 30 meter space was given, now the builder is not ready to give even 18 meter space without compensation. We are getting three meters of space, so now the same amount of service road will be built. The problem of sewer line has been resolved. There is no such thing as not doing homework.
