The impact of the voting going on in the neighboring state of Jharkhand on 13th and 20th of this month is also being seen in Jashpur district. The local administration in Jharkhand has started acquiring vehicles for voting. Due to this, the number of vehicles going from Chhattisgarh to Jharkhand and coming from there has been affected. The acquisition of vehicles includes passenger buses as well as cargo vehicles. Due to this, the passengers are not only facing problems in movement but it is also affecting the supply of essential commodities in Jashpur and its surrounding markets.
Especially the supply of green vegetables is being affected. Local vegetable seller Sandeep Mahato said that vegetables are supplied to Jashpur, Manora, Sanna, Kunkuri from Kudu Mandi of Lohardagga district of Jharkhand. These days, due to acquisition of vehicles in Jharkhand, there is a shortage of pickups and trucks. Due to this, the quantity of vegetables coming from Kudu has reduced to less than half. At the same time, pickup operators of Jashpur are also hesitant in going to Jharkhand. He says that in Jharkhand the administration posts notices of vehicle acquisition. Due to this, their vehicle not only gets stuck in election work but the driver also has to stay with the vehicle.
Local arrivals also weak
According to vegetable sellers, the local arrival of vegetables is very weak at present. The main reason for this is that the vegetable producing farmers of districts like Jashpur, Sanna, Manora, Duldula are limited to crops like tomato, chilli, brinjal apart from paddy. Apart from these, the crop of vegetables in the district is very less. This is the reason why due to good arrival of tomato, its price has fallen from Rs 80 to Rs 30 per kg. Whereas cauliflower is being sold at Rs 100 to 120, brinjal at Rs 60, ladyfinger at Rs 60 per kg daily and weekly in the market. People’s household budget is getting disturbed due to skyrocketing prices of vegetables. Vegetable sellers say that there can be relief in the prices of vegetables only after the increase in local arrivals in the last week of November and the completion of the voting process in Jharkhand.
