Last month, a transplant coordinator training program was organized at MGM Medical College, Indore, the financial capital of Madhya Pradesh. Here, transplant coordinators from all the districts of the state as well as Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Gujarat came to receive training.
Till now in Madhya Pradesh, people had to turn to big cities like Bhopal, Indore for organ transplant, but now this facility is going to be started in small districts also. Transplantation can take place after organ donation in these districts.
Kidney transplant facility is going to start soon in Ujjain and Burhanpur. For this, the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTO) has issued permission to the private hospitals there. Earlier, transplantation has also started in the hospitals of Rewa and Jabalpur.
This has been possible due to the transplant coordinator training program organized last month at MGM Medical College. Here, transplant coordinators from all the districts of the state as well as Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Gujarat came to receive training. Dr. Anil Kumar, Director of National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTO) also participated in it.
Trend of organ donation will increase
Officials said that having organ transplant facilities in small districts will encourage organ donation. Whatever brain dead patients are there in the hospital, the coordinator team there will discuss with their family members. She will explain to them the importance of organ donation, because till now such patients had to be sent to big cities for organ donation.

Officials said people still have misconceptions that organs may be sold, but they need to be aware that this is not the case as everything is recorded on the online portal. The organs are given according to the list made here. If the person whose name is higher in the list is somewhere far away, then the organ is given to the one who is second. Therefore, people should become aware about organ donation and come forward, so that the sick person can get a new life.

These organs can be donated
If you wish, you can give your consent while alive that these organs of mine should be donated after my death. Organs that can be donated include tissues like cornea, heart valves, bone, skin etc. which can be donated after natural death. Other vital organs like heart, liver, kidneys, lungs and pancreas can be donated only in case of brain dead.
