In Balagaon, Harda, a drunken son poured petrol on his blind mother and set her on fire. The elderly woman sustained severe burn injuries and died during treatment at Hamidia Hospital in Bhopal. Police have registered a case of attempt to murder against the son.

In Balagaon of the district, a drunken son, fed up with the daily fights at home over the issue of taking care of his blind elderly mother, poured petrol on his mother and set her on fire. After suffering seventy percent burns in the fire, the elderly man was brought to the district hospital in a critical condition, from where he was referred to Bhopal.

The woman died on Wednesday during treatment at Hamidia Hospital, Bhopal. Police have registered a case of attempt to murder against the accused son. The accused is far from being arrested by the police. The incident took place on Tuesday evening in Balagaon under Civil Lines police station.

There were disputes regarding care

ASP RD Prajapati told that 64-year-old Premnarayan Kalam, resident of Balagaon, lived with his wife and sons and his 91-year-old mother Anandi Bai Kalam. Mother could not see with her eyes. Being elderly, the woman used to lie on the cot. There were daily disputes in the house regarding the care of the elderly woman.

Police investigation revealed that accused Premnarayan had daily fights with his wife and daughter over this matter. For a few days, Premnarayan’s wife and daughter left the house. After this, upset Premnarayan, under the influence of alcohol, poured petrol on his mother and set her on fire.

The woman was admitted to the district hospital in critical condition on Tuesday night. A case of attempt to murder has been registered against the accused son Premnarayan in the Civil Lines police station. The woman died on Wednesday in Hamidia Hospital, Bhopal.

Premnarayan absconded after the incident. Seeing the fire in the house, nearby people reached there and extinguished the fire and informed the police. After the incident, SP Abhinav Chowksey, ASP RP Prajapati and Rajeshwari Mahobia and other police officers and employees reached Balagaon late in the night. After taking the statement of the relative, the police registered a case against the accused Premnarayan under section 296, 109 of BNS and took up investigation.
