Kidney transplant was started in Hamidia in 2021. The transplant did not take place in 2023 due to shortage of medicines and procurement rules. Here kidney transplant surgery is done through laparoscopic method. Now with the facility of bone marrow transplant, Bhopal will join the selected government hospitals of the country.

Bone marrow transplant after kidney is expected to start in Hamidia Hospital by the month of November. The first bone marrow transplant may also take place here by next month. After its commencement, Hamidia will be the second government hospital in the state after Indore, where this facility will be provided to the available patients.

For this, approval has also been given for 12 rooms on the fourth floor of H-1 block of the hospital. In which a 24-bed ward will be prepared for the patients. With the start of this facility, permanent treatment of blood cancer and anemia related diseases like thalassemia and sickle cell anemia can be done.

It will cost around Rs 16 crore

According to the information, the management will have to spend around Rs 16 crore to set up this unit. Bone marrow transplant in private hospitals costs around Rs 24 lakh. Around five lakh will come here. An MOU for this has been signed with bone marrow transplant expert Dr. Prakash Satwani of Columbia University, America.

Let us tell you that Hamidia is the first government hospital in the state, where seven kidney transplants have been done. Dr. Amit Jain of the Urology Department of Gandhi Medical College said that two patients are to undergo kidney transplant. The organ donation committee has approved for this.
