Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has declared Navya Haridas as its candidate for the by-election on Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala. On this seat, Navya from BJP will face senior Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. The Election Commission of India (ECI) had announced the date of the by-election on Tuesday. Voting will take place on November 13 and the results will be declared on November 23.
Navya Haridas is a mechanical engineer who received her B.Tech degree from KMCT Engineering College, University of Calicut in 2007. According to the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), Navya has no criminal cases and has assets worth Rs 1,29,56,264. According to the ADR, he also has a total liability of Rs 1,64,978. According to her Twitter profile, she is a councilor in Kozhikode Corporation and is currently the state general secretary of BJP Mahila Morcha. On her Facebook page, she describes herself as a BJP Parliamentary Party leader and state general secretary of BJMM.
Let us tell you that the Congress Party had announced in June itself that Priyanka Gandhi will contest the elections from the Wayanad seat vacated by the resignation of Rahul Gandhi. In June, days after the Lok Sabha elections 2024, Congress had announced that Rahul Gandhi will keep Rae Bareli parliamentary constituency in Uttar Pradesh and vacate the Wayanad seat in Kerala, from where his sister Priyanka Gandhi will make her electoral innings.
This time’s election on Wayanad Lok Sabha seat is being considered very important, because Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is an important face for Congress and Navya Haridas is considered a young and energetic option for BJP. By-elections to the Wayanad parliamentary seat and 47 assembly seats will be held on November 13 along with the first phase of voting for the Jharkhand Assembly. The results of the by-election for Wayanad Lok Sabha seat will come on November 23.
BJP has tried to attract young voters by making Navya Haridas its candidate. Navya has been presented by the party as a new and strong woman leader, who is contesting the elections on the issues of youth and women. On the other hand, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is in the fray as a strong Congress candidate, who has been a popular face for the party for a long time.
Meanwhile, the state’s ruling LDF has fielded senior CPI leader Satyan Mokeri for the Wayanad Lok Sabha bypoll. Mokeri, a former MLA from Nadapuram constituency in Kozhikode district, is known for his work in addressing issues in the agriculture sector. He contested the Lok Sabha elections from Wayanad in 2014, where he lost to Congress candidate MI Shanavas.
