Arson tension after murder of head constable’s wife and daughter in Chhattisgarh, SDM also attacked

In Surajpur district of Chhattisgarh, a miscreant kidnapped and brutally murdered the wife and minor daughter of a head constable after a dispute in the local market. In protest against this incident, angry local people took to the streets and announced a city shutdown. The angry mob started arson and demonstrated. The mob set vehicles on fire outside the house of accused Kuldeep Sahu and also attacked the SDM who reached the spot. SDM somehow saved his life and took shelter in the nearby police station.

Surajpur Superintendent of Police MR Ahire said that on Sunday evening, Sahu attacked a constable Ghanshyam Sonwani by throwing boiling oil on him after an argument in the market area. The accused tried to crush the police team while running away. Seven teams have been formed to search for the accused. Sonwani has suffered injuries. He is in the hospital now. Subsequently, he went to the house of head constable Talib Shaikh, who was on duty during the Durga procession, and killed his minor daughter and his wife.

Tension spread in the area regarding this incident. The angry mob set fire to the house of the accused and Kuldeep Sahu, district secretary of the Congress-affiliated student organization NSUI. After this, the fire brigade reached the spot to extinguish the fire, but the angry crowd stopped the fire fighters from extinguishing the fire. Meanwhile, the SDM who reached the spot to control the situation was also attacked by the mob. The SDM had to run away to save his life.

It is said that the SDM of Surajpur reached the spot and appealed to the crowd to allow the fire brigade personnel to extinguish the fire. The public was so angry that they started beating the SDM. Somehow the SDM saved his life and reached the nearest police station. The incident took place on Sunday night when Talib Shaikh was on duty. On returning home, he found that his wife Mehu Faiz (38) and daughter Aaliya Shaikh (12) were not at home. There were blood splatters all around the house. He immediately informed senior officials after which investigation was started.

Surajpur Superintendent of Police MR Ahire said that on Monday morning the police recovered the bodies of Talib Shaikh’s wife Mehu Faiz and daughter Aaliya Shaikh in Pidha village. In an attempt to arrest Sahu, the police fired at his car, causing its tire to burst, but he managed to escape. We will not rest in peace until Sahu is caught. This is an attack on the police and will not be tolerated. Meanwhile, former CM and Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel expressed concern over the law and order situation in Chhattisgarh.

Bhupesh Baghel wrote on X, ‘Head constable’s wife and daughter were murdered in Surajpur. The killer poured hot oil on a constable. The public has lost faith in law and order. The public has now set out to judge for itself. I am saddened to hear about the incidents of house burning. Same thing happened in Lohari Diha of Kawardha. People had set fire to the collectorate. I appeal to everyone to maintain peace and request them not to take the law into their own hands.
