NLU student ran away in fear of the warden, died after falling from the fourth floor; Was partying with friends in hotel

A student of the National Law University (NLU), located in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar, died after allegedly falling from the fourth floor of a hotel in Bhopal on Thursday night. Police have identified the deceased as 19-year-old Tushar Mali. He was a resident of Pali district of Rajasthan. The first-year student at NLU-Gandhinagar had come from Bhopal along with 83 other students of his university to participate in a sports competition organized at the National Law Institute University (NLIU).

The students were staying in a hotel near Chetak Bridge, the business hub of the city. Govindpura SHO Awadhesh Singh Tomar said that Tushar was ‘partying’ with his 7-8 friends in the hotel room located on the fourth floor, when someone knocked on the door. Tomar told that Tushar was afraid that there was a warden at the gate, so he tried to escape by climbing out of the window and climbing the iron scaffolding behind the hotel.

Tomar further told that Tushar walked about 20 steps and reached the open part of the scaffolding. He had no idea about this at all and then he fell about 60 feet. His friends took him to AIIMS-Bhopal, 6 kilometers away, where he was declared dead on arrival. Govindpura ACP Deepak Nayak said that the hotel had installed metal framework for cleaning and maintenance, but a part of it was open, leading to Tushar’s death.

According to TOI report, police are investigating why Tushar tried to escape through the window alone. Police are talking to other students present in the room to find out the reason. Govindpura police registered the case and handed over the body to the relatives after post-mortem. SHO Tomar told that Tushar’s father Kishan Mali is a farmer and also runs a shop in Pali, Rajasthan. His parents and sisters reached Bhopal on Friday and took the body to Rajasthan for cremation.
