BJP crosses one crore mark in MP, aims to make 1.5 crore members; when will the second phase start?

Bharatiya Janata Party has performed brilliantly in its membership campaign in Madhya Pradesh. The state president of the party said that in the first phase the figure has crossed one crore. The party’s target is to make 1.5 crore members. It is expected that the party will touch this figure after the second phase.

The BJP has enrolled more than one crore members in Madhya Pradesh between September 2 and 25 as part of the first phase of its membership drive, a party leader said on Thursday. He said that the membership figure in the first phase was 1,00,81,432. State BJP chief V D Sharma told PTI that the second phase of the membership drive will begin from October 1 and end on October 15. “We have achieved the achievement of enrolling 1,00,81,432 members due to the hard work of our dedicated workers,” he said.

Madhya Pradesh BJP media chief Ashish Aggarwal told PTI that Madhya Pradesh has become the second state after Uttar Pradesh to cross the one crore mark. So far 1.25 crore members have been registered in Uttar Pradesh.

He said that BJP is eyeing to make 1.50 crore members in Madhya Pradesh. He said while Madhya Pradesh has around 64,000 polling stations, neighboring state Uttar Pradesh has around 1.64 lakh such facilities. Another leader said that under such a campaign in BJP, the membership of the old member is renewed every six years.

Aggarwal said that in the last campaign the party had achieved the figure of 96 lakh and had failed to touch the figure of one crore. As per 2011 census, Madhya Pradesh had 7.26 crore citizens and in the next such exercise this number is likely to increase to 8.50 crore. The census could not be conducted in 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic. In the general elections held earlier this year, the BJP won all 29 Lok Sabha seats in Madhya Pradesh.
