I want to become the Chief Minister, but I am unable to move beyond the post of Deputy CM: Ajit Pawar

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Ajit Pawar spoke openly about his desire to become CM. During a program, he said that he wanted to become the Chief Minister, but repeatedly gets stuck at the post of Deputy CM. During this, he also talked about seat sharing between Mahayuti i.e. NCP, Bharatiya Janata Party and Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

In a program of India Today, Ajit Pawar said, ‘I want to become the Chief Minister, but I am not able to move forward. I am not getting a chance.’ He also said that NCP had a chance to make him the Chief Minister in the year 2004, but the party lost it. The special thing is that in 2004, the post of CM of Maharashtra came in the account of Congress.

In the 2004 assembly elections, NCP emerged as the largest party in Maharashtra. During that time, the party got 71 seats. Whereas, Congress was in second place with victory on 69 seats. Then Congress leader Vilasrao Deshmukh was made the CM. Deshmukh died in the year 2012.

How will the seat sharing be done?

In the program, Ajit has said that the seat sharing will be based on the number of seats won by the party in the year 2019. He said, ‘BJP will contest on the seats it won in 2019. The same will be for NCP and Shiv Sena. In such a situation, the seat sharing formula is clear on 200 seats. The remaining 88 seats will be divided among the alliance partners.’

2019 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election

In the year 2019, the undivided NCP contested the elections along with the Congress. At the same time, BJP and the undivided Shiv Sena were together then. In 2019, BJP contested 164 seats and won 105 seats. Whereas, Shiv Sena won 56 out of 126. Then NCP was the largest party with victory on 54 seats and Congress got 44 seats.
