The festival of Shiva and Uma, nature and man, is celebrated in Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple as Uma-Sanjhi Mahotsav. This time the festival will be celebrated from 28 September to 2 October. The tradition of worshipping Uma-Sanjhi is based on ancient culture. Religious tableaux and Sanjhi will be decorated in the temple’s Sabha Mandap in the five-day event. Lord Mahakal in the form of Manmohan will go boating in Koti Teerth Kund. Every evening folk artists will perform songs, music and dance. Dholi Bua of Gwalior will narrate Hari Katha to the devotees through Naradiya Sankirtan.

Uma Sanjhi Mahotsav is celebrated every year in the Shraddha Paksha in Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple. As part of the event, Sanjha will be decorated in the Sabhamandap of Mahakal Temple. Cultural events will also be held in the courtyard of Mahakal. This year, the Uma-Sanjhi Mahotsav will be organized by Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple Management Committee from 28 September Ashwin Krishna Paksha Ekadashi to 2 October Ashwin Shukla Dwitiya. In this five-day event, after the evening aarti every day, cultural programs based on folk culture will be organized along with rangoli and other competitions for children, under which Sanjhi of Kilakot, Rangmahal, Sheeshmahal etc. will be made with the colors of rangoli. On October 4, on the second day of Chandra Darshan, Uma Mata’s procession will start from Mahakal Temple and go to Shipra bank through the traditional route. After Sanjha immersion and worship on Shipra, the procession returns to the temple. For five days, selected folk artists give performances of singing, playing and dancing in the evening.
