A big decision was taken in the meeting of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and India’s Border Security Force (BSF). It was decided that 200 acres of land would be returned to Bangladesh, which had gone to India due to river erosion. According to media reports, a meeting was held between senior officials of BGB and BSF on Sunday. In this, a joint decision was taken to re-survey the disputed land and return it to the rightful owners. This disputed land is located in Chalishpara area of Ramakrishnapur Union in Daulatpur Upazila, which has been in dispute due to the change in the course of the Padma river and natural disasters. This disorganized the international border pillars in an area of 3 kilometers.
A survey was conducted early this year regarding the land dispute. The entire matter came to light in this. BGB’s 47th Battalion commander Lieutenant Colonel M Mehboob Murshed Rahman confirmed the matter. He said that during the survey on February 10, it was found that about 200 acres of Bangladeshi land had gone into Indian territory and about 40 acres of Indian land had gone into Bangladesh territory. Both the countries are now preparing to officially correct the borders in October. He said that an agreement has been reached to re-survey the disputed land and return it to its real owners.

Lt Col Rahman stressed that no one will be allowed to use the disputed land until the resurvey is completed. He also expressed Bangladesh’s strong protest against the recent border killings. He also appealed to the BSF to avoid detaining innocent civilians and prevent illegal cross-border activities, especially before Durga Puja.
