Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has said that Madhya Pradesh has established many records in the Swachhta Abhiyan started in the country on the initiative of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. As per the wishes of the Prime Minister, the people of the state have also established new dimensions in the field of cleanliness with full enthusiasm and public cooperation. On one hand, Madhya Pradesh got the status of the cleanest state in the Swachh Survey of the year 2022, on the other hand, the city of Indore in the state got the distinction of being the cleanest city of the country for the 7th consecutive time. Along with this, in the year 2023, an innovative innovation of producing bio CNG from wet waste has also been done in the state.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav informed that Swachhata Hi Seva Abhiyan is starting from 17 September, the birthday of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. This campaign will continue till 2 October, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. This year the theme of the campaign has been kept as “Swabhaav Swachhata-Sanskar Swachhata”. In Swachhata Hi Seva Abhiyan, emphasis has been laid on maximum public participation and participation of local bodies. Madhya Pradesh has set new records in many cases in Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban). All the cities of the state have made their best efforts during the last 10 years. With the cooperation of the public, Swachh Bharat Mission has been given the form of a public movement. He said that this time also various cleanliness related activities will be conducted on a large scale with public participation in urban and rural areas.

Notable achievements of the state in the field of cleanliness

In the Swachh Survekshan Award-2023, Indore city has received the award of the cleanest city of the country for the 7th consecutive time. This is a great example of public participation of the citizens of Indore. Madhya Pradesh is the first state to prepare guidelines and issue work order for STP Inception and Diversion based sewage treatment system at low cost. This year in March-2024, Madhya Pradesh has published the “Utility Water and Septage Management Policy” for urban bodies, in which 100 percent mechanized cleaning of sewers and septic tanks has been ensured. Indore is the first city in the country to receive Water Plus certification and 7 star rating. Recently, in the Swachh Air Survey-2024 under the National Clean Air Program, Jabalpur has got the second position in the country for improving air quality in the category of cities with a population of more than 10 lakh.

100% garbage collection by motorised vehicles

Garbage collection system is being operated with more than 7 thousand 82 motorized vehicles in the urban areas of the state. Compartments have been made in them to keep dry, wet, domestic hazardous and sanitary waste separately. Vehicles are being monitored with GPS and PA system and cleanliness topics are being promoted. Spot compositing is being encouraged for processing and disposal of wet waste. Spot compositing is being done by more than 850 solid waste producers in the state. Giving priority to the disposal of fecal sludge in the state, 399 FSTPs are being operated in 368 urban bodies and 55 STPs in 20 bodies. 401 urban bodies in the state are doing compositing with 368 centralized units. 360 Material Recovery Facility units have been constructed in 401 urban bodies for processing of dry waste.

Production of Bio CNG from wet waste

Continuous efforts are being made to eliminate legacy waste in the bodies in a scientific manner. Legacy waste of 108 urban bodies of the state is being treated. In the first phase of Swachh Bharat Mission, 50 urban bodies have completely disposed of their legacy waste. State-of-the-art self-operated units are working in Katni and Sagar for composting of wet waste. In these units, waste is brought from 16 cities and converted into compost. In Indore, Govardhan unit of 550 tonnes per day capacity is working to prepare bio-CNG from wet waste. Units for generating electricity from waste are also running in Rewa and Jabalpur. In these units, 18 megawatt electricity is being generated by processing 950 tonnes of waste per day. Approval has been received from the Central Government for cluster-based units of 1019 tonnes per day capacity for 10 bodies of the state. Work to generate electricity from 660 tonnes of waste is proposed in Indore and Ujjain. This unit will generate around 12.15 MW of electricity. With all these works, the urban bodies of the state will be able to become self-reliant in waste management by the year 2027.

New heights achieved in Swachh Survey

In Swachh Survekshan-2022, Madhya Pradesh has been declared the cleanest state in the country. Whereas in Swachh Survekshan-2023, Madhya Pradesh has been declared the second cleanest state in the country. Madhya Pradesh has received 7 national awards in the matter of cleanliness. 361 bodies of the state have received ODF Double Plus, 3 bodies ODF Plus and 7 bodies have received ODF certification. 7 bodies have received Water Plus certification to promote the purification of wastewater and the use of treated water in urban bodies. So far, 384 bodies of the state have declared themselves as protected cities on the basis of CPHEEO norms.

Swachh Survey-2024

In the category of open defecation free cities, 27 cities have been given Water Plus and all the remaining cities Double Plus, while for garbage free star certification, a target has been set to certify all the cities with at least 3 stars.

Innovation and excellence

An activity called Swachhata Ki Pathshaala has been started to create awareness about cleanliness issues in the state. For this, 44 thousand 639 Safai Mitras, 2004 officials, 243 public representatives and representatives of 200 non-governmental organizations have been trained in 388 training sessions so far. Swachhata Samvad discussion is being organized every day with the aim of strengthening the process of learning from mutual experience. Keeping in mind the health of Safai Mitras, camps were organized for the health checkup of Safai Mitras and their family members with the help of National Health Mission. 44 thousand 701 Safai Mitras and their families were benefited in these. Under Swachh Bharat Mission, more than 10 online training sessions have been organized on major topics related to cleanliness. Recently 16 training sessions were organized at RCVP Naronha Administration Academy. In these sessions, in order to bring about change at the grassroots level, more than 600 officers and employees from 14 urban bodies and 311 bodies were given training along with exposure visits.
