Rain spoiled the kitchen budget, prices of potatoes, onions and tomatoes increased


The weather has become pleasant due to the continuous rain for many days, but the kitchen budget of the people has increased. Due to damage to the crops, the supply of vegetables coming from Himachal, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh has reduced. Its effect is visible in the markets. Due to the rain, the prices of almost all the vegetables have increased, but the biggest impact has been on the onions coming from Nashik, potatoes coming from Punjab and green vegetables including tomatoes and coriander coming from Himachal. The prices of onions have started touching the sky.

On Sunday, the price of onion in the wholesale market ranged from 52 to 60 rupees per kilogram, while in the colonies its price has reached 80 to 90 rupees. Wholesale vegetable market trader Jai Kishan said that while a 25 kg crate of tomatoes usually sells for 300 to 350 rupees, on Sunday it sold for 650 to 700 rupees.

The businessman told that the prices have doubled in four-five days. Cauliflower has reached 45 to 50 rupees per kilogram in the wholesale market. After removing the leaves, this cabbage is costing shopkeepers up to 60 rupees per kilogram and after reaching the colonies, it is being sold for 80 to 100 rupees per kilogram. The prices have also increased due to the decrease in the supply of cabbage from Leh-Ladakh. The prices of spinach are also skyrocketing. Till a few days ago, spinach was being sold for 30 rupees per kilogram in the retail market, now it is being sold for 40 to 50 rupees per kg in the wholesale market itself.

Chipsona potato price rises

Potato and onion wholesaler Shripal said that the prices of Chipsona potatoes have also been increasing continuously for many days. The continuous rain in UP including Punjab has had a big impact. Potato sowing has been delayed by about 20 days. Due to this, farmers have kept potatoes in cold storage, the stock which was to come out of the store now, will now come out with a delay of 15-20 days. Due to this, the prices of potatoes have increased by 200 to 300 rupees per quintal on Sunday. Chipsona potatoes are now being sold at Rs 30 per kg in wholesale and Rs 40 per kg in colonies. Pahadi potatoes are being sold up to Rs 50 per kg in retail.

Now relief will be available when new crop arrives in October

Wholesale vegetable trader Shripal says that the monsoon season is expected to end in about 10 to 15 days. There will be no rain after this. In such a situation, the new crop of tomatoes, peas, cabbage, gourd, ash gourd, capsicum, green chillies, spinach, radish and other green vegetables will be ready by October. Due to this, prices are expected to come down.
