IIS ties up with UWW to promote wrestling development

New Delhi
Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with United World Wrestling (UWW), the global governing body of the sport, to develop wrestling in India.

The MoU was formalised at Wrestling House, UWW’s hospitality venue located on a boat near the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The agreement aims to establish a collaborative framework for the development of wrestling in India through various mutually beneficial programmes, initiatives, projects and activities.

“We are thrilled to sign an MoU with United World Wrestling. It is aimed at furthering India’s progress in the sport. India has historically produced some of the best wrestlers across the world and UWW’s support will take our programmes to the next level,” IIS founder Parth Jindal said in a release issued here.

He said, “Four athletes associated with IIS have won Olympic medals and two of them have come in wrestling. This sport is an integral part of our program. ” He said, “Our focus is now on LA (Los Angeles) 2028 and Brisbane 2032. Our effort is to bring out the right talent and prepare quality coaches. This partnership will help in achieving both of these. “

The institute has played a key role in the development of wrestling in India, with Olympic bronze medallists Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik among its notable athletes. Anant Panghal and Nisha Dahiya, who trained at IIS, recently participated in the Paris Olympics. Both wrestlers are World Championship bronze medallists. In the age group, IIS has supported Under-20 Asian Championship gold medallists Dhanfand and Nitika.
