This Bollywood film had sent Sanjay Gandhi to Tihar Jail, he was sentenced to two years

The government has banned many Bollywood films, but this is the film of the Hindi film industry that sent another member of the Gandhi family to jail. This film was directed by Amrit Nahata and was scheduled to be released in theatres in 1975. That was the period of emergency and during the period of emergency, every film was first watched by the government and then allowed to be released.

When the government saw the film, they did not like it. The censor board raised 51 objections and sought answers from the makers of the film. The makers responded, but they were rejected. After this, the film was banned and its original prints were burnt and destroyed.

When the emergency was lifted, general elections were held and Sanjay Gandhi’s government lost. The Janata Party government was formed and the film’s director Amrit Nahata became an MP on a Janata Party ticket. The case of burning the prints of Amrit Nahata’s film reached the court and the court sentenced Sanjay Gandhi to two years in prison in 1979.

The name of this film of Amrit Nahata is ‘Kissa Kursi Ka’. Amrit Nahata made the entire film again because the print was burnt. Raj Babbar was in the lead role in the first film. However, when the film was being made for the second time, Raj refused to work in the film. In such a situation, Amrit Nahata made the film with Raj Kiran, Surekha Sikri and Shabana Azmi. But the film proved to be a flop at the box office.
