Douglas Emhoff, husband of Democratic Party’s presidential candidate Kamala Harris, said that his wife will make a great president, whom the whole of America will be proud of.
Emhoff (59) introduced himself to the enthusiastic crowd at the Democratic National Convention as the “First-Second Gentleman”. He talked about his family and his meeting with Harris on the second day of the four-day convention in Chicago. He said that his wife and Vice President Harris always stands by him when needed and he has done the same for the family.
“And now, when the country needs her, she is demonstrating what we already know: She is ready to lead the country,” Emhoff said.
Harris’s stepson, Cole Emhoff, introduced his father in a video message. Cole and Emhoff’s participation in the convention highlights what Harris often describes as her “blended family.” Emhoff said, “She will be a great president who we will all be proud of.”
Harris, of Indian and African descent, formally secured the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination earlier this month. She is the first Indian-American to become a presidential candidate of a major US political party.
Elect Kamala Harris as the country’s next president: Bernie Sanders tells Americans
Senator Bernie Sanders urged Americans to elect Vice President Kamala Harris as the country’s next president.
Speaking at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago, Sanders spoke about the importance of introducing a progressive economic agenda for working-class Americans and overcoming massive corporate greed.
He said, “We need an economy that works for all of us, not just to satisfy the greed of the billionaire class. My fellow Americans, 60 percent of us live paycheck to paycheck, while the top one percent have never had such a time.”
“These elites tell us we shouldn’t tax the wealthy, we shouldn’t extend Medicare benefits to dental, hearing or vision care, and we shouldn’t raise Social Security benefits for struggling seniors,” Sanders said.
Senator Sanders from Vermont said that billionaires from both the Democratic and Republican parties should not use money power in elections. He said, “For the sake of our democracy, we must reverse the disastrous decision of the Supreme Court and move towards public financing of elections. We need to guarantee health care to everyone not as a privilege, but as a human right.”
Sanders said public education needs to be strengthened, teacher salaries should be raised, and higher education should be made available to every American regardless of their economic status.
Presidential election will be a chance to choose between a bright future and a dark night: US Congressman Schumer
US Congressman Chuck Schumer said that the presidential election in November will be an opportunity for millions of Americans to choose between a bright future and a dark night.
Vice President Kamala Harris received the votes of all the delegates in the formal ‘roll call’ voting during the ‘Democratic National Convention’ (DNC) held in Chicago. In his address immediately after that, Schumer called upon the leaders of the Democratic Party and the countrymen to elect Kamala as the next President of America and defeat the Republican Party’s candidate for the presidential election, Donald Trump.
Schumer said that ensure that Donald Trump never gets close to the ‘White House’ (official residence and office of the President of America). He said that Kamala will need a majority of the Democratic Party in both the House of Representatives and the Senate to complete the work.
“She can’t do this alone,” Schumer said. “I put on this blue band to stand against anti-Semitism, to stand against all forms of hate. Our children, our grandchildren, no matter what their race, no matter their religion, no matter their gender or background, deserve better than the violent rule of Donald Trump.”
