New Zealand have named five spinners in their squad for the one-off Test against Afghanistan next month and a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka.
The only Test against Afghanistan will be played in Greater Noida in India from September 9 to 13. The two Tests in Sri Lanka will begin on September 18 and 26.
Experienced fast bowler Tim Southee will be the captain while the team also has players like Kane Williamson, Devon Conway, Glenn Phillips and Rachin Ravindra.
Coach Gary Stead said, “Difficult decisions may have to be taken for the Test tour of the subcontinent. Apart from humidity and heat, fast bowlers may have to stay out considering the pitches.”
He said, “Tim and I have talked about this and it is also necessary for workload management of the fast bowlers, including Tim.”
Spin all-rounder Mitchell Bracewell is making a comeback after 18 months of injury. Along with him, Mitchell Santner, Ajaz Patel, Glenn Phillips and Ravindra will handle the spin.
